{"id":2730,"date":"2023-11-16T16:13:10","date_gmt":"2023-11-16T16:13:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/old.acresal.gov.ng\/?p=2730"},"modified":"2023-11-16T16:13:10","modified_gmt":"2023-11-16T16:13:10","slug":"how-acresal-is-addressing-climate-change-challenges-npc-acresal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/old.acresal.gov.ng\/?p=2730","title":{"rendered":"How ACReSAL is addressing climate change challenges -NPC ACReSAL"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"xdj266r x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The National Project Coordinator (NPC) of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, Mr. Abdulhamid Umar has revealed that the interventions of ACReSAL project will fundamentally address challenges brought about by climate change.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">He said the activities have already taken good stand in the 19 (Nineteen) Northern States and Federal Capital Territory (FCT).<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Mr. Umar stated this while delivering a goodwill message at the National Stakeholders Validation Workshop on Nigeria Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy organized by National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) at Rockview Royale Hotels, Abuja.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/scontent-los2-1.xx.fbcdn.net\/v\/t39.30808-6\/401108939_312507901556143_3573147718669925891_n.jpg?stp=cp6_dst-jpg&amp;_nc_cat=102&amp;ccb=1-7&amp;_nc_sid=5f2048&amp;_nc_eui2=AeHJodx-09TKhl3KOkAyVCwQXAcmqcs3N8hcByapyzc3yMHM9WlMacAussAuUlJ6mTZlbN5XIejOrW-xxAkcon4Q&amp;_nc_ohc=pR0jojPtsWgAX-qkYMK&amp;_nc_ht=scontent-los2-1.xx&amp;oh=00_AfADcbTk0r30ip5FQtg9irJNDWbUPOI8zGi0ry_fsO0LOw&amp;oe=655B33E0\" alt=\"May be an image of 2 people, dais and text\" \/><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">He said that the project\u2019s restoration efforts are heavily in the areas of afforestation, reforestation, climate smart agriculture, water conservation systems, agroforestry, flood and erosion control, water system improvement and all these are essentially to arrest and mitigate Greenhouse Gas Emission.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">He further disclosed that the project is driven by the Federal Ministry of Environment and co-led by Ministries of Agriculture and Food Security, and the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">These three key ministries\u2019 activities to a larger extent are to address problems of climate change that affect our livelihoods and the environment, the NPC said.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/scontent-los2-1.xx.fbcdn.net\/v\/t39.30808-6\/402234840_312507961556137_5757018406416270297_n.jpg?stp=cp6_dst-jpg&amp;_nc_cat=111&amp;ccb=1-7&amp;_nc_sid=5f2048&amp;_nc_eui2=AeFhpx7Wj2A5_veQo2Gp_d5HDGleN8yWk_cMaV43zJaT9yyrqU2DoU7i51fTaNCx2MAdcEuOtm8UDskpI5RpsVUt&amp;_nc_ohc=bblzrMPLpQgAX9vVKPE&amp;_nc_ht=scontent-los2-1.xx&amp;oh=00_AfDw5iJXXgWQMYY8POUNDxR46SNK48-x9uqfAXj4zG1QKg&amp;oe=655A581B\" alt=\"May be an image of 3 people and crowd\" \/><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">He noted that ACReSAL is anchored on four broad components and the subject for discussion is critical because of the visible and impactful effect and challenges of Climate Change.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">He therefore called for the need for all to commend and celebrate the current government for embracing the fact that climate change is a reality.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">He congratulated the Director General, National Council on Climate Change, Dr. Salisu Dahiru for creating the synergy and strength to deliver a document that speaks to our contribution as far as issues surrounding low emission and a strategic document for implementation in accordance with article 4.19 of the Paris agreement.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">He appealed to all to ensure that the content of the document is put into practice.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">In his address, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, Chairman House Committee on Environment and Climate Change commended the DG NCCC and other critical stakeholders for the collaborative and timely efforts towards developing a workable and sustainable frameworks and action plans in pursuance to the attainment to net zero emission economy to the 2050-2060 estimated time frame.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Hon. Chris Nkwonta who spoke through Dr. Chidi Nwankpa noted that Nigeria\u2019s commitment towards moving to a net zero emission economy is clearly a proactive and commendable response to some valued studies showing that in order to halt and mitigate its consequences of carbon emission, we have to stop and reduce Greenhouse Gas Emission to its barest minimum.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Hon. Chris said that studies have also shown that without reducing Greenhouse Gas Emission the climate will continue to be harmed, public safety will perpetually be at risk, among climate disasters as a result of the effect of environment pollution will continue to occur globally.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cConsequently, we must not deviate from our commitment, we must not relent in our efforts towards net zero carbon emission attainment, thereby ensuring a healthier and sustainable environment for human existence\u201d This National Validation Workshop is indeed pivotal to the development of a competitive and sustainable long-term Low Emission Development Strategy for Nigeria\u201d he stated.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Delivering his keynote address, the Director General, National Council on Climate Change, Dr. Salisu Dahiru, said that this is a significant step forward as Nigeria embark on defining our Low-Emission Development Pathways for a cleaner, more resilient future in the face of climate change.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/scontent-los2-1.xx.fbcdn.net\/v\/t39.30808-6\/402650955_312507544889512_8398836109055183834_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_p526x395&amp;_nc_cat=109&amp;ccb=1-7&amp;_nc_sid=5f2048&amp;_nc_eui2=AeFbL33SGds_UO7o3e339d8gyIlduz0X9iPIiV27PRf2I2cmG0waWRic91zXpYtPjKzFTVPVkrc3q_8vEOAEUbZH&amp;_nc_ohc=s4QuRi0udSsAX_17hfJ&amp;_nc_ht=scontent-los2-1.xx&amp;oh=00_AfA59gYqQcEc74wXUBw29P5R1zX7US1QXqhS2tonkUlz8g&amp;oe=655B053B\" \/><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">He expressed pleasure that Nigeria has developed its Low Term \u2013 Low Emission Strategy Document which will be a supporting tool for our submitted revised 2021 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, a collective effort that involved contributions from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">This new submission reaffirms Nigeria&#8217;s commitment to unconditionally reduce emissions by 20% by 2030, with a conditional increase to 47%.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">He revealed that the National Validation workshop aims to serve as an invaluable platform to present updates on the progress achieved and underway in our nation&#8217;s global commitments toward curbing Greenhouse gas emissions within the UNFCCC process.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Dr Salisu introduced Nigeria Long-Term Low-Emission Development Strategy 2060 for National Stakeholder validation. While noting that the urgency to combat climate change and forge a sustainable path for the future has never been more critical. This strategy embodies our pledge to preserve our environment, protect our people, and ensure economic prosperity for generations to come.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to him \u2018\u2019This isn\u2019t merely a document; it\u2019s our shared vision, encapsulating the aspirations of our youth, the wisdom of our elders, and the dreams of future generations. This journey won\u2019t be devoid of challenges, yet let us be resolute: the path to a sustainable future is the path to progress. It signifies cleaner air, enhanced health, inclusivity, food security, green job creation, and improved livelihoods for all Nigerians. Ministers, representatives, and NASS members, to commit to supporting Nigerian initiatives toward a Net-Zero trajectory without compromising our national resources.
